Jewellery Roll

The daughters gave the Liberty book of Home sewing to me a while ago now. I don't think I have made anything from this book yet. I have look at the pages and oohed and ahed at the pretty fabrics.
Well I have finally made something. The Jewellery Roll. The instructions could have been a little clearer if I am honest. The pictures in the book could be more real and a little less artistic for my taste.
I am please with how is turned out but I did make a little boo boo. The straps should have been at the same side.  Mine are on opposite sides. Also I used percale for the inside.

Lovely match with the other fabrics but because of the high thread count hand stitching the binding was hard work. I will take it on holidays with me and ponder over any design changes that may be needed. Pink tulips however really rock my boat, so I am keeping this one.

SomeTuesday Finishes

I finished all of Friday's things. I haven't bothered to take pictures of the skirt partly because the daughter has worn it and spilled her dinner on it and also it literally was just making the waist elastic to size.

Easter placemats are waiting to feature in an Easter post, so I will show you the finished pram blanket. The third fabric from the top is genuine 70's. I think that makes it vintage.

Is it up-cycling when you use something that was used before for something else? Well the back is a blanket I used for my daughters, so I guess it is probably recycling as it purpose hasn't really changed.

I also made some bibs. Yes, they all need a fastener at the back that will happen.
I am going to be selling my wares at a local sale on 28 April. It is being organised by a local children's group and they want products aimed at children and babies. Hence the little blankets and the bibs. No more babies for me. Well unless the small black dog has puppies... That would be great.

Week of almost finishes.

It's been a week of almost finishes here. I have a little zig zag quilt top finished but not quilted.
Easter placemats quilted and binding sewn on but not sewn down.

And a skirt for my youngest. It just needs to waistband sorting to. The pattern is by McCalls. The skirt is a full circle and "super swishy" and if you are under 10 the swish factor is very important. The ruffle on the underskirt is because my daughter very much has the idea that more is in more. I am not sure I am in a hurry to repeat the ruffle on a full skirt like this this though. In total of six metres of ruffle. I did suspect at one stage it would never end. My daughter loves it and that is what matters.

I must write about my trip to the Stitch show in London with my friend Anna. I will do this after I have sorted thorough the pictures. Have a happy weekend.

Friday 15 March 2013

Finished two things today.

I finished this wash bag for my dad. It's made using Noodlehead's tutorial. He is very pleased with it. He especially likes that it has a water proof lining. My youngest daughter made the frog pose with the bag. Why I don't know. Frog looks like she would like a bag too though.

Skirt for eldest daughter has a waistband and is the correct length. Feeling a bit better about a possble summer now.

I also cut a another skirt for Daughter 2. I have decided though that I don't like the fabric I had chosen for the lining, so a trip to town with daughter is needed tomorrow.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Work in progress - Skirt

Today I was busy making a skirt for the eldest daughter. At 1pm my dinning room table looked like this. Outer skirt was cut but the lining was still just one piece of fabric.
By 5pm I had an almost finished skirt with lining.
Yes, it needs a waistband but that will have to wait till tomorrow. The children need dinner and I need to go to a parent's evening.

The pattern is McCalls M5696. It comes in six different styles and lots of sizes. I trace the pattern to the size I need. I find this a "sneaky" way of getting the most for my money. This is now the fourth or fifth version of this skirt.

Yesterday I finished this skirt for daughter 2. The girls have very different styles.

I am linking this to Freshly pieced WIP Wednesday. Now dinner prep.

girlie pink pram blanket

This is a rather sad picture because all the lovely sunshine we had a few days ago is gone. It is now grey and raining. So indoor photo shoot it is.

I am linking to Crazy mom Quilts.

Work in Progress - oops is it Thursday already.

Is it Thursday already? Oops I missed WIP Wednesday. Well this week I have made a little quilt and a bib (modelled here by Rosie the doll). Now before anyone asks they are not for me. The quilt will go up for sale in my Etsy shop and the bib is for another Mum, who has children in my daughter's class, and has just had a new baby.
My daughter found the label maker and labelled my tins. The scissors were going to say "Freddie's sewing scissors. Only to be used for fabric use for anything else and face the consequences". Apparently that wouldn't fit.

I also started a little pink quilt. Again to go in my Etsy shop.

I am now going to sew down the binding on the pink quilt. More tomorrow.

Little pram blanket

I love small things. They are so quick to do. I found some fleece (left over from a baby snow suit). What a lovely back to a quilt that would make. So here we have a little pram blanket in boyish colours. It's only 24inch by 27inch. But it was finished in less than 3 hours. Not too shabby I think.

Friday 1 March 2013

Granny Squares Finished.

Here she is all quilted up and washed. I love the scrappiness. I managed to use lots of different little off cuts. There are really new up to date fabrics but also some bits of vintage fabric have been included.
The back is from Ikea. It's a really large print. I hope my brother and sister in law will like. I am going to sew the label on and then send it.

Have a good weekend.
